I know that most real estate agents are offering the exact same set of services for the exact same price. Those that have a longer resume offset their experience by having their time diluted with literally dozens of listings. I approach the job differently.
While brokerage commissions are relatively pre-set, the level of service you demand – and should receive – is definitely not fixed. Because I came to the industry from a different path and background, I never learned what a “traditional” broker is supposed to do, or not do. As mentioned, I approach the job differently.
I work for Coldwell Banker in Wellesley, and have been extremely active in the town’s real estate market for over 15 years, personally and professionally. For example, before joining the company I fully renovated and/or extensively expanded two 1930s colonials which each sold for $3+ million. I have a natural talent for interior design, professional marketing training, and overall have been a passionate student of the real estate market for years (renovating and selling your own homes forces a serious level of focus).
I am not a tour guide, but a creative thinker and problem solver. Showing a house is not about un-locking the front door and then locking back up. It is about gaining an intimate understanding of every home I represent and personally educating each prospective buyer on those facets of a property that will resonate or are not obvious to the untrained eye.
Anyone can “list” a house. In today’s market, to sell your house you need a broker with in-depth local market insight, renovation and design experience, and someone who can help prospective buyers envision what their life would actually be like in the house (and town). All of these facets of marketing your home are things at which I excel.
